Abstract

Compositions of vinyl halide polymers comprise as a combined plasticiser and stabilizer a diepoxide of the formula <FORM:0801701/IV (a)/1> wherein R represents a divalent aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical containing from 0 to 18 carbon atoms and R1 to R18 represent hydrogen atoms and/or alkyl groups containing up to 4 carbon atoms such as bis-(3,4-epoxy-cyclohexylmethyl) maleate, oxalate or terephthalate or bis-(3,4-epoxy-6-methyl-cyclohexylmethyl) succinate. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile or vinylidene chloride or a terpolymer of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride and acrylonitrile. Conventional plasticisers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, and stabilizers such as cadmium compounds, e.g. cadmium stearate, or cadmium-barium compounds may also be included in the compositions.
