Abstract

Vinyl halide polymer compositions comprise as a plasticizer and stabilizer, an epoxide of the formula <FORM:0827986/IV (a)/1> wherein R1 to R6 represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group and the (CnH2n-1O) group represents an epoxyalkyl radical containing from 8 to 16 carbon atoms. Preferably the total number of carbon atoms in groups R1 to R6 does not exceed 10. Vinyl halide polymers specified are polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, vinylidene chloride and acrylonitrile and vinyl chloridevinylidene chloride-acrylonitrile terpolymers. The epoxide may be 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl 9,10 - epoxy - (stearate, myristate or palmitate) or 3,4-epoxy-(1- or 6-methyl)-cyclo-hexylmethyl 9,10-epoxystearate or 3,4-epoxy-6-methylcyclohexylmethyl 5,6-epoxylaurate. The compositions may also comprise a conventional plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate and cadmium or cadmium-barium stabilizers, e.g. cadmium stearate. Specification 814,199 is referred to.
