Abstract
Thermoplastic resin granules are uniformly coated with 0.05 to 2.0% by weight of a finely divided, heat stable pigment and 0.05 to 0.5% by weight of a silicone oil chosen from the group of polysiloxanes having melting points higher than the melting point of the aforesaid resin. In the examples, a granular polyhexamethylene adipamide is coated by tumbling firstly with a silicone and then with a powdered pigment. Specified pigments are cadmium yellow, orange and red, Hommel red oxide, ferro-turquiose, ultramarine blue, Ti-there and cadmolith lemon yellow. Other thermoplastic resins specified are polyhexamethylene sebacamide, polycaprolactam, polypropylene, polyethylene, copolymers of ethylene with 1-olefines and polyoxymethylene resins. The products may be used as moulding compositions. Specifications 753,299, 777,538, 777,639 and 826,178 are referred to.ALSO:A thermoplastic moulding composition comprises a granulated thermoplastic resin, the granules being uniformly coated with 0.05 to 2.0% by weight of a finely divided, heat stable pigment and 0.05 to 0.5% by weight of a silicone oil chosen from the group of polysiloxanes having boiling points higher than the melting point of the aforesaid resin. In the examples, a granular superpolyamide made from adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine is coated by tumbling firstly with a silicone oil and secondly with a powdered pigment. Specified pigments are cadmium yellow, orange and red, Hommel red oxide, ferroturquoise, ultramarine blue, Ti-pure and cadmolith lemon yellow. The products are: (1) melted, extruded into ribbon and cut into cubes; (2) injection moulded into cups; and (4) moulded into bars. Other thermoplastic resins specified are polyhexamethylene sebacamide, polycaprolactam, polypropylene, polyethylene, copolymers of ethylene with 1-olefines and polyoxymethylene resins. Specifications 753,299, 777,538, 777,639 and 826,178 are referred to.
