Abstract
835,352. Control systems for X-ray apparatus. SIEMENS-REINIGER-WERKE A.G. Jan. 24, 1958 [Jan. 26, 1957], No. 2506/58. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] In a time switching system, apparatus is connected to the supply for a period depending on the charge or discharge of a capacitor via a resistor, the voltage across the capacitor approaching a critical value at which a switching member disconnects the apparatus from the supply, there being a pulsating unidirectional voltage superimposed on the capacitor voltage tending to increase the difference between the capacitor voltage and the critical voltage. The Specification describes part of a control system for an X-ray tube. In the circuit shown the sequence is started by closing switch 1, striking the gas tube 2, energizing relay 5 which opens contacts 11. Capacitor 8 is normally charged negatively from the supply 9. When the switch 10 is thrown, the gas tube 2 is biased back and cut off when its pulsating anode voltage next falls to zero. Relay 5 is then released, charging capacitor 12 from the output of rectifier 4. After a short delay the high voltage is applied to the X-ray apparatus by means not stated. The capacitor 8 now discharges at a rate controlled by the variable resistor 13. As shown in Fig. 2, the output of the full wave rectifier 15 is superimposed on the discharge curve so that the critical voltage of the gas tube 2 is reached at an instant corresponding to the supply voltage zero. At this instant the gas tube 2 re-strikes, energizing relay 5 which disconnects the primary of the X-ray tube transformer. The use of a charged capacitor 12 as anode supply during the timing period prevents errors due to reduction of the supply voltage by the load of the X-ray apparatus. A similar arrangement may be used for grid bias. Capacitor 6 and variable resistor 7 prevent relay chattering due to the pulsating waveform from rectifier 4.
