Abstract
835,194. Preserving blood, semen, tissues &c., artificial insemination. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. April 9, 1957 [April 26, 1956], No. 26228/58. Divided out of 824,702. Classes 49 and 81 (2). [Also in Group XIII] Pharmaceuticals, enzymes or biological specimens such as blood or bull semen are stored in liquid nitrogen L in a vessel having an evacuated jacket space 18 which may contain a powder. They are placed on trays 77, the upper of which, Fig. 2, has a cut-out sector 92 to permit access to the lower and which may be revolved separately by handles 80, 81 to bring their contents within reach of the opening 14 of the vessel. The upper tray is secured on a hollow spindle through which extends a spindle bearing the lower tray. There may be more than two trays. The stainless steel inner 11 of the vessel has a double bottom containing adsorbent zeolitic material 43 retained by a filter to maintain the low pressure in the space 18. As in the original Specification, nipples communicating with the vacuum space 18 may be concealed in handles.
