Abstract

835,177. Turbine blades. AVERY, B. A., and LAVIOLETTE, J. P. March 24, 1958 [June 14, 1957], No. 9337/58. Class 110 (3). A vibration damping shroud 20 surrounding the outer periphery of a rotor assembly, consists of a continuous thread wound about the periphery under constant tension and seated in saddles 16, fitted in notches 15 at the tip of each blade. Each saddle consists of a bed portion 17, a flange 19 restraining the saddle against tangential movement in one direction only, and radially extending tabs 18, 18a adapted to be bent towards one another to enclose part of the winding so that the saddles are securely held to the shroud. The thread may be of woven, twisted, braided or monofilament construction. Fibreglass thread or stainless steel wire may be employed, the convolutions being bonded by a resin or in the latter case welded together.
