A raking device of the type comprising rake wheels mounted in echelon formation on a frame is provided with a stopping or separating member associated with at least one rake wheel for the purpose of preventing the crop delivered by the rake wheel from being displaced too far in the delivery direction, thereby assisting in the conversion of a given number of swaths into a greater number of smaller swaths. As shown in Fig. 1 the raking device comprises rake wheels 8, 9, 10 and 11 mounted for free rotation on a frame attached to the power lift links of a tractor 1. Mounted behind each rake wheel, on the frame member 31, is a separating wheel 38 having the form of a ratchet wheel whose teeth constitute times for engaging the crop (see Fig. 2). Each wheel 43 is mounted for rotation at the lower end of a vertical shaft 48 rotatably housed in a bushing 49 fixed to the frame members 31. At the top of the shaft 48 is fixed a link 52 connecting the shaft to a strip 55 which runs the whole length of the frame member 31, and to which each of the separating wheels is attached in like manner. The inclination of the separating wheels to the direction of travel of the implement can therefore be varied by moving the strip 55 longitudinally and fixing it in the desired position by means of a pin engaging one of the holes 60. Springs 53 and 54 encircling the shaft 48 allow a limited vertical displacement of the wheel 43. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the rake wheels are mounted in pairs on a looped frame 70, a separating wheel 95 being provided with each pair. In this case, each separating wheel is mounted on a member 89 fixed to the axle 75 of one raking wheel of the pair and bearing two horizontal pins 90 and 91. A bell crank lever having arms 92 and 92A is rotatably mounted on the pin 91, the longer arm 92 supporting the separating wheel 95 and the shorter arm having a pin 96 connected by a spring 97 with the pin 90, the spring serving to urge the wheel into contact with the ground, or when the wheel is put by hand into the dotted position, serving to keep the wheel in an inoperative position.
