834,930. Storing acetylene. KAUFLEIN, M. Feb. 28, 1957, No. 6696/57. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XXX] Filling of an acetylene cylinder k, Fig. 2 with pellets having a hard core and a sheath of softer powder prior to charging with acetone and acetylene gas is effected through a funnel i fitted to the cylinder neck and supplied at a constant rate from a second funnel. g having its outlet h offset from the vertical axis of the funnel i so that the pellets impinge against the funnel wall as shown in Fig. 2a and flow down into the cylinder without blocking the inlet thereof; the cylinder k being jolted by lever and rachet means during the filling operation. The hard core of the pellets may comprise pumice, charcoal or lava stones and the sheath material may comprise diatomaceous earth, magnesium carbonate or powdered asbestos. The final one per cent of the filling may comprise silica gel or lava stone of size range 0À5-1 millimetre. The so filled cylinder is then evacuated and charged with acetone and acetylene gas.
