Abstract
834,885. Change-speed gear. MASSEYFERGUSON S.A., [formerly CIE MASSEYHARRIS-FERGUSON]. March 19, 1957 [March 27, 1956], No. 9448/56. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] Three nested U-shaped striker forks 54, 92, 70 have aligned holes in their limbs by which they are mounted upon guide rods 50, 51, a depending finger 128 on a gear shift lever 123 selectively engaging one or other of three notches 55, 95, 72 in the upper surfaces of the forks so that each striker can be slidden independently of the others to establish a ratio in a five-speed and reverse change-mesh changespeed gear. The lower surface of each striker is provided with three notches, such as the notches 150 ... 152, Fig. 6, in the lower surface of the striker 54, for engagement by a spring-biased plunger 153 to hold it in either of its two engaged positions or in its central, neutral position. A separate plunger 153, Fig. 14, is provided for each striker fork, and each plunger has a reduced neck 166. A disc 167 is arranged between the three necks 166 and is so proportioned that when one of the plungers 153 is depressed during a ratio shift, the disc is displaced sideways and locks the other two plungers in position, thereby preventing movement of the associated two striker forks. The striker forks control the axial positions of gears 30 ... 34, Figs. 1, 2, slidable upon a driven shaft 29 connected through a bevel gear differential 40 to the road wheels of a tractor. The gears 30 ... 34 mesh selectively with associated gears 22 ... 26 fast on a driving shaft 20 and with a reversing idler 35.
