In a wrapping machine having a folding channel and a pair of conveyers, the matching flights of which convey articles along the channel, the channel side walls and conveyers may be adjusted towards and away from each other simultaneously or the side walls alone may be so adjusted. The invention is described in connection with a known form of bread wrapping machine on which an elevator 20 pivoted on a shaft 21 raises a loaf into the folding channel, a web W of wrapping material being partially folded round the loaf during its elevation and the folding being completed in the channel. The side walls comprise stationary folders 28, 30, heaters 34, labellers 36 and cooling plates 38 suspended from bars and brackets 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 56 supported by plain shafts 60, 58, 54 and 52 and by screwed shafts 62, 64, 66, 68, the latter being rotated either by handwheel or motor to adjust the side walls laterally. The conveyer chains 108 are guided by plates 117 119 attached to blocks 131, 143, 145 supported by the plain shafts and slidable along them. The forward conveyer sprockets 114 are keyed slidably on a driving shaft 193 and move with the blocks 145. Latches 147, 149 and 151 are pivoted to the blocks 131, 143 and 145 and each set is operated by a handle 163 and linkage 159, 161, mounted on a plate 111 associated with each conveyer. When it is desired that the conveyers shall be adjusted with the side walls, the latches are moved to engage notches 175, 181 and 187 in the side wall support brackets 56, 46, 50 so that movement of the latter by the screwed shafts moves the conveyers. When the latches are disengaged, the side walls alone move. The rear tucking blades 102 slide on the shaft 21 and their arms 103 are engaged by projections 106 on the brackets 40 for adjustment with the side walls, Figs. 1A, 8.
