Abstract

A hydrocarbon fuel boiling within the range of 100 DEG to 750 DEG F contains a petrolatum oxidate having a ratio of neutralization number to saponification number below 0.25 and an S.U.S. viscosity at 210 DEG F. of 1500 to 20,000 seconds. The petrolatum oxidate is obtained by oxidizing heated petrolatum with air, and has a high ester content. The composition contains 2 to 30 pounds of oxidate per 1000 barrels of fuel. The composition may also contain 0.5 to 10 pounds per 1000 barrels of fuel of a Schiff's base reaction product of 1 mole. of an aliphatic polyamine having two primary amino groups with two moles. of an aromatic aldehyde, such as disalicylal propylene-diamine. The fuel may be a jet fuel, diesel oil, gas oil, or furnace oil. Examples are given. U.S.A. Specifications 2,282,513 and 2,705,241 are referred to.
