Class 146(1) A suspension filing system comprises parallel horizontal rails 2 or 11 arranged one above the other and containers 3 for receiving documents or loose leaves 4 having hangers 6 fixed adjacent the rear upper edges for engaging over upwardly directed webs 2c or 11a extending along the lower portion 2b or 11d of each rail, the containers 3 being slidably suspended from one rail by means of the hangers 6 so that the rear lower portion of each container bears against the upper portion 2a or 11b of the next lower rail. As shown, the rails 2 or 11 are bolted to uprights 1 or 12 by bolts 13 which may also secure similar rails on the opposite side. As shown in Fig. 5, the rails 11 are of Z- shape, with the top flange 11c cut away adjacent the uprights, the end upright however abutting the flange edge. As shown in Fig. 1, the rails 2 are C-shaped with top flange 2a shorter than flange 2b so that the containers 3 are inclined as shown. The containers 3 are preferably open at the top and front and have cut away parts 10 to facilitate finding an index or like in the corner of the documents 4 and may have a short vertical extension of the bottom 3d at the open side to prevent the documents sliding out. The hangers 6 are of sheet metal strip bent to form the hook 6c which slides along the web 2c or 11a, or two hangers of wire may be used adjacent each side 3a, 3b of the back 3c. The back 3c may have a reinforcement strip at top and bottom. The uprights 1, 12 may form a separate stand or may form part of a cabinet or may be secured to a wall. As shown, a top 7 is secured by angle irons 8 to the uprights.
