Class 132(1) The wheel axle of a roller skate or the like has, surrounding the axle, a coaxial or like cushioning means whose inner surface is parallel throughout its length to the axle which is supported in housing means in bracket side plates or a truck type undercarriage. the axle carrying a wheel at each side of the housing means. The cushioning means may be of natural or synthetic rubber or other resilient plastic, e.g. nylon and may be a continuous sleeve, an open or closed helix or a series of parallel spaced strips. The sheet metal truck member a, Figs. 1 and 2, has a cylindrical housing a<SP>2</SP> for the rubber sleeve c and the wheel axle d and is secured to foot plate b by bent over lugs a<SP>1</SP>. The sleeve c may be crimped or clamped in the housing as it is folded round the axle or a sleeve e or it may be bonded to the housing metal. As shown in Fig. 5, a skate comprises a truck with parallel longitudinal side plates a<SP>3</SP>, a<SP>4</SP> with vertical slots a<SP>5</SP> in which the axle can slide. Sleeve c is located within a metal tubular housing a<SP>2</SP> whose ends have lugs a<SP>6</SP> which pass through the side plates and are bent over. The axle passes through slots a<SP>5</SP> and the rubber sleeve, which may have a lining d. In a modification, Fig. 7, a plate a<SP>2</SP> may be provided which is bent round sleeve c and has web portions a<SP>7</SP> which extend between side plates a<SP>3</SP>, a<SP>4</SP>, the sleeve being as described with reference to Figs. 1 and 2. In a further modification, Fig. 9, the housing and cushion are superimposed on a plain cushion pad f so as to allow oscillation about two axes, the wings a<SP>8</SP> of housing plate a<SP>2</SP> being bent to an open U- shape, the limbs of the U being louvred to receive a pin or spindle f perpendicular to axle d.
