Abstract
833,942. Type-printing telegraphy. TELEPRINTER CORPORATION. April 9, 1958 [April 11, 1957], No. 11317/58. Class 40 (3). Relates to an improved selector mechanism for a printer of the kind described in Specification 799,956 which comprises a type cylinder moved axially and rotated by cables acted on by pulleys which are mounted on levers moved by cams, the cam-shaft being continuously rotated but the cams being turned through individual half-revolution clutches, to provide either an " in " or an " out " position for the corresponding pulley. The clutches are controlled by stop levers which are magnetically controlled. In one embodiment, a pulley 412 is carried by a cam-follower lever 414 operated by a cam 418 for movement between the solidline " in " position and the dotted-line " out " position, 4141. The half rotation of cam 418 is provided by clutch 420 having a stop tooth 422 which engages stops on arms 424, 426. The stop arms are parts of levers pivoted at 428, 434, respectively and urged by springs 432, 438 respectively towards a sequence cam 440 on shaft 166, which prevents release of the stop arms 424, 426, until a desired time indicated by the cam drop 442. A latch 444, whose position is controlled by an electromagnet 446 and a spring 456 releases the stop-arm 424 and holds the stop-arm 426 when the magnet 446 is energized. When the magnet is de-energized the opposite effect is produced. The latch is adjusted to move without touching the cooperating parts of the stop-arm levers, by raising or lowering the lever 490 upon which its pivot 452 is mounted. The latch may be controlled by two opposed electromagnets, Figs. 13 to 15 (not shown), or may be magnetically polarized in one direction or the other, by coils common to all the latches of the selector, to move towards one or the other of two individually provided permanent magnets, Figs. 16 to 20 (not shown). Specifications 813,081 and 833,941 also are referred to.
