482,048. Type - printing telegraphy. CREED & CO., Ltd., and SALMON, R. D. Sept. 22, 1936, No. 25732. [Class 40 (iii)] In a type-printing receiver having aggregatemotion mechanism for positioning the typecarrier or the member selecting a type bar, the various units of the mechanism are, on termination of the signal, actuated simultaneously by selector members set by the signal elements. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a slotted frame 34 rocked by a mechanical regenerator in response to signal elements as described in Specification 463,659 controls five pairs of levers 51 which transfer the settings of the frame 34 to five bars 42 in succession under the control of a distributer cam-shaft 53 rotated through 180‹. The bars are guided in a slotted plate 49 and have slotted ends engaging a bar 41 carried by lever 43. The cam shaft 53 towards the end of its movement operates an arm (not shown) on lever 43 whereby the slotted ends of the bars 42 are moved downwardly, and strikers 56 thereon actuate the detents of the operating mechanism of sun and planet wheel aggregate motion units as described in Specification 466,815. Case-shift may be performed by setting the aggregate - motion device to certain positions, but - it is preferred to use an additional bar 42A, Fig. 3, operating separate case - shift mechanism. The bars 42 are set by the case-shift signal and permit one or other of two bars 47 at right-angles thereto and normally urged in one direction by spring- controlled lever 62, Figs. 3 and 5, to be moved in the other direction by spring 55 when lever 62 is rendered ineffective by a cam on shaft 53 after the bars 42 have been set. The bars 47 set bar 42A to the left or right, as the case may be, through bell-cranks 65. The slotted end of bar 42A engages a rod 66 carried by a pivoted member 67 which is moved by a lever 57 and a further cam on shaft 53 so that a striker 56A operates one or other of a pair of detents controlling case-shift mechanism as described in Specification 468,839, [Group XVI].
