833,760. Raising liquids by heating. AIR PRODUCTS Inc. Jan. 25, 1956 [Oct. 30, 1954], No. 2429/56. Divided out of 832,607. Class 102(2). Apparatus for transferring liquid from a low level tank 10 to a high level tank 11 comprises a succession of uplift columns 12, 13, 14 and submergence columns 21, 22, 23 connected in series, the lengths S 1 , S 2 , Ss increasing progressively and the upper ends of the uplift columns being at different elevations the lengths L 1 , L 2 , L 3 increasing progressively, and means for partially vaporizing liquid in the uplift columns, which columns open at their upper ends to vapour collecting conduits. The liquid may be pre-heated by the heater 32 to near boiling point. In a modification the submergence columns 22, 23 and the tank 10 are cooled.
