Abstract

<PICT:0833581/III/1> An applicator for applying nail varnish remover to finger or toe nails comprises a container 8 having a closure 11 and a compressible, absorbent lining 9 on part at least of the side walls which is charged with the varnish remover. The lining 8 may be felt or foam rubber in single or multi-layer arrangement, e.g. felt on foam rubber, and may extend over all the inner faces of the walls of the container or may be separated by a partition 13 from an absorbent or non-absorbent layer 12 which is unchanged and serves as a wiper. The container may be hemi-spherical as shown, rectangular, frusto-conical or cylindrical, the side walls of the cylinder being lined with the absorbent material, and the container may be of a resilient material or of a rigid material, e.g. plastic or metal, and a reservoir may be incorporated in the device, e.g. in the closure where the container is annular, or between the bottom of the container and the lining, a suitable channel or duct being provided between the reservoir and the lining. Bristles may be incorporated in the absorbent material.
