833,392. Brake pedal mechanism. CHICAGO FORGING & MANUFACTURING CO Oct. 8, 1958, No. 32110/58. Class 103 (1). A brake control mechanism, particularly for road vehicles, comprises a control lever 7 having a curved surface which is arranged concentrically to the pivotal mounting of the lever and surrounds a cam or clutch member 19 so that one or more rotatable elements 30 located between the curved surface and the cam can be urged into close frictional engagement with the curved surface on movement of the lever towards its brake-applying position, as shown in Fig. 2. From such position, the arm 7 is prevented from rotation in a clockwise direction, towards a non- braking condition, by the frictional pressure contact between the rollers 30, the housing 16 and the surfaces 21, 22 and 23. Such clockwise rotation causes the rollers 30 to bind together against the housing 16 and the camming surfaces. The brake is releasable from its locked breaking position by slight upward movement of the handle 49 on the lever 43, such movement being effective to rotate member 40 and the fingers 32 in a counterclockwise direction so as to move the rollers 30 towards the centre of the camming surfaces 21, 22 and 23 and therefore out of binding frictional contact with housing 16. Spring means connected to cable 11 are thus permitted to rotate the brake arm 7 in a clockwise direction towards the " brake off " position.
