Abstract

833,257. Making socket head screws. ROBERTSON MFG. CO. Ltd., P. L. Nov. 5, 1956, No. 33759/56. Class 83 (4). A punch for forming a squaresection socket in a socket head screw has a frusto-pyramidal portion 21 terminating in a conical end portion 22. Elliptical wear areas 33 are formed between the two portions. An upper frusto-pyramidal portion 23 is also provided. The sides 25 are inclined at approximately 3 degrees to the punch axis and the conical portion 22 forms an angle of approximately 56 degrees with the axis. A comparison is made between the punch of the invention and that used in the prior art. The Specification also claims a method of forming a socket using the punch.
