Moulded egg trays have feet protruding beneath the base of each egg cell to support the tray on a flat surface or to co-operate with indentations in the inverted cells of a cover on a tray stacked below. The feet may form the sole support of the trays or may be augmented by downwardly projecting posts. In one embodiment, Figs. 1, 2, 5, cells 3 have feet 4 which are located in recesses 11 in cover cells 10 during stacking. Between the cells 3 are upwardly projecting posts 8 having depressions 9 for the reception of the ends of posts 14 between the cover cells. The cell walls 5, 6 are alternately concave and convex to grip and protect eggs irrespective of which end thereof is lowermost. Various similar wall formations are described. In another embodiment, Figs. 6, 7, upwardly projecting posts 35 alternate with downwardly projecting posts 36 on the tray, the posts 36 co-operating with upwardly projecting posts 40 between the cells 41 of the cover of a tray stacked beneath. The upwardly projecting posts 35 are engaged by downwardly projecting posts on the cover as before. The trays and covers have apertures 560 along their edges enabling stacks to be tied together, Fig. 36, and to assist handling of individual loaded trays. Each tray and cover may enclose thirty six eggs, two stacks of five trays fitting a standard egg case. A tray may be cut to produce three packages of one dozen eggs and each package enclosed in a sleeve, Fig. 37 (not shown). The trays and covers may be of transparent or other plastic as well as of the usual fibre.
