Abstract

Foundry-moulds or cores are made of a major proportion of heat-resistant, substantially noncombustible fibrous-material, such as glass or asbestos, and a minor proportion of a thermosetting resinous binder, such as phenolic, urea or melamine resins. The mixture is made into a slurry, and a felted body formed, the binder being set by drawing hot air through said body. A water-soluble polyethylene-glycol may be added to assist in causing the resin to adhere to the fibres, and caustic may be added to the resin, prior to its mixing with the water-fibre slurry.
