Abstract
Fibres which have been metallised by contacting them while hot and in dispersed and bulk condition with a heat-decomposable gaseous compound (see Group II) are spraycoated with a binder and then compressed or moulded and heated to cure the binder to produce a finished, shaped product. The fibres may be of glass, slag, synthetic resin, paper, wood, cotton or wool, and may be metallised with Al, Sb, Cr. Co, Fe, Pb, Mo, Ni, Os, Ru, Se, Te, Sn, W or Zn. Suitable binders are phenolaldehyde resins, ester gum, rosin, pitch, and sodium silicate.
