Abstract

831,158. Presses. UNILEVER Ltd. April 30, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 13996/57. Class 87(2). A press for producing objects from plastic material, e.g. soap tablets, has two co-operating dies, at least one of which comprises a rigid backing member and a continuous lining of resilient material, e.g. nylon, and means for deforming part only of that lining away from its backing member to disengage the finished object. In the press shown in Fig. 1, each die 1, 2 consists of a bolster 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, a support plate 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, and a lining 5, 51, the centre parts 11, 11<SP>1</SP> of which are made so thin that they can act like membranes. The surfaces of the supporting plates remote from the membranes are provided with recesses 16, 16<SP>1</SP> connected to ducts 17, 17<SP>1</SP> which in turn are connected to a source of pneumatic or hydraulic pressure. The supporting plates are also provided with ducts 18, 18<SP>1</SP> which connect recesses 12, 12<SP>1</SP> with recesses 16, 16<SP>1</SP>. The pressure may be applied to ducts 18 or 18<SP>1</SP> according to which die the tablet adheres to after moulding or the pressure may be applied to both sets of ducts before the mould is opened so that the tablet will rest free in the bottom die on opening.
