Abstract

1447103 Isostatic moulding MANNESMANN AG 14 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 58116/73 Heading B5A In a process for the production of a moulded body composed of a plurality of discrete layers, each layer is made from a particulate material by isostatic compression in an elastic mould, each successive layer being formed in a separate pressing operation upon the previously formed layer. Particulate material may be compressed isostatically in an elastic mould, after which the pressure is released to leave a space between the formed body and the mould into which further particulate material is fed and isostatically compressed. Alternatively the formed body is removed from the mould and placed in a second elastic mould into which the further material is fed. The formed body may be hollow e.g. by using a removable mould core. The first mould may include an elastic insert which is removed after the first isostatic pressing and before the second supply of material. The surfaces of the various layers may differ in profile and may have a lubricant or an adhesive material applied to them.
