Abstract
830,416. Underframing of railway vehicles. ANDRE RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 29, 1957 [March 5, 1956; March 28, 1956], Nos. 6814/56 and 16415/56. Class 103(6) A railway vehicle body structure 6, Fig. 1, is located with respect to the bogie frame 1 by a rigid hub 10 on the body engaging in a rigid annular body 11, on the bogie, with the interpositioning of an annular mass of elastomeric material 13, Fig. 2, the latter either having perforations 14 or reductions in thickness whereby longitudinal displacement of the body relative to the bogie is permitted against relatively great resilient constraint, transverse displacement of the body relative to the bogie is permitted against relatively smaller r constraint, due to the perforations 14 or reductions in thickness, and the body can rotate. relative to the bogie about a vertical axis. The body 11 is carried by transverse members 12 on the bogie, whilst the body 6 is pendulously supported on the bogie 1 by links 8, constructed in the manner described in Specification 714,296 and engaging between members 9 on the bogie and brackets 7 on the body 6. In another embodiment described with reference to Figs. 3, 5 and 8, the body structure members 22, Fig. 5, are connected, through horizontal transverse trunnions 25 and elastomeric masses 26, with a sub frame 21 pendulously supported from the bogie side frames 15 by links 29 described in Specification 714,296 and connected between brackets 30 on the bogie and abutments 32 on hollow brackets 28 of the sub frame 21. Axle boxes 16 are connected to the side frames 15 by links 17 and torsion joints 18 of the kind described in Specification 652,266. Referring to Figs. 3 and 8, hollow members 38 on the sub frames 21 house inner members 37 rigidly connected by crank arms or webs 36 to inner members 35 housed within outer hollow members 33 fixed to transverse members 34 between the side frames 15. Between the members 33, 35 and 37, 38 are disposed elastomeric masses 39. These joints are also as described in Specification 652,266. For longitudinal displacements of the sub frame relative to the bogie the masses 39 are compressed and no torque is applied to the joints. However, for transverse displacement of the sub frame relative to the bogie, torques are applied to the joints and rolling of the masses 39 in the spaces between the inner and outer members occurs so that there will be smaller resilient constraint in this direction. The torsion joints 33, 35, 36, 37, 38 at each end of the sub frame 21 also permit rotation of the body 22 relative to the bogie about a vertical axis.
