830,314. Cable tension regulators. PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC AEROPRODUCTS. Feb. 21, 1958 [Feb. 27, 1957], No. 5765/58. Class 78 (2). Control cables 18, 18<SP>1</SP> on an aircraft pass round pulleys 17, 17<SP>1</SP> and are normally maintained, under tension due to compensation by springs 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, but when the tension exceeds a certain value (e.g. when the cables are transmitting the control), the pulleys are locked on to shaft 1 so that the control is transmitted without " mush." Thus, the pulleys 17, 171 are carried by yokes 16, 16<SP>1</SP> mounted on crosshead 4, said cross-head being slidable on anchored shaft 1 but being provided with locking collar 19 so that the cross-head locks on the shaft when twisted in direction F. The tension of cables 18, 181 holds the cross-head against the springs 9, 9<SP>1</SP> located in tubes 8, 8<SP>1</SP> fixed on the shaft. Additionally, springs 22, 22<SP>1</SP> are incorporated in horizontal bores 21, 21<SP>1</SP> formed in cross-head 4, the springs pressing rollers 25 against shaft 1. This prevents any turning of the shaft till the excess tension dT in one cable causes the shaft to move against the springs 22, 221 and collar 19 to lock on the shaft.
