Abstract

830,133. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 19, 1956 [July 6, 1955], No. 19473/55. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre has a tread comprising circumferentially spaced traction lugs 3, 8 which are separated by transverse grooves 7 and are inclined to the mid-circumferential plane X-X of the tyre in the direction of forward rotation of the tyre from the tyre shoulders, each lug having a traction augmenting portion 4, 9 adjacent the mid-plane X-X which presents laterally extending faces 6, 10, and circumferentially adjacent traction portions 4, 9 being relatively laterally displaced. As shown, lugs 3 extending successively from opposite tyre shoulders to terminate, adjacent the plane X-X, in traction-augmenting portions 4 which have tapered ends 5, are interspaced with chevron-shaped lugs 8 the apices of which form the traction-augmenting portions 9, successive portions being disposed on opposite sides of the plane X-X. The portion 9 of each chevron lug 8 is on the same side of the plane X-X as, but relatively laterally displaced from, the portion 4 of the following lug 3. The lugs 3, 8 have the same circumferential width and their portions 4, 8 are wider than the remaining portions of the lugs, each intervening groove 7 having a width, throughout the majority of its length, greater than the narrower part of the lugs.
