Class 112 Needles, shifting laterally In a zig-zag sewing machine employing a plurality of pattern cams the selection of the desired pattern is effected by means of a single-adjusting member operatively connected to a cam sensing finger and to indicating .means embodying a separate scale of symbolic patterns. Each pattern is associated with a separate signal lamp. The cam surfaces are formed by grooves 30, 31, Fig. 3, in drums 28, 29 mounted on a shaft 27 driven by worm and worm-wheel gearing 25, 26 from the arm shaft 11. By removing the screwed plug 10a the drum 29 may be withdrawn and replaced by a different drum. A manually rotatable and axially movable shaft 22, Fig. 4, carries a rocking arm 21 pivotally connected at 20 to a link 19 coupledto the needle-bar gate, and a sleeve 35 carrying feelers 36, 37 one of which may be brought into engagement with a selected groove in one of the drums. A spring 39 attached to the casing and to the pivot 20 urges the feelers into contact with the drums. The signal lamps 45 are arranged in a member 46 behind translucent discs 50 diagrammatically marked with the various patterns and their circuits are controlled by a contact member 56 secured to feeler 37 and co-operating with contact elements 57 connected with the lamps.
