Abstract

The invention comprises Vitamin B12 Factor III in which the phenolic hydroxy group in the basic part of Factor III has been converted into the methyl ether, the ethyl ether, the allyl ether, the b -hydroxyethyl ether, the benzyl ether, the 2,4-dinitrophenyl-(1) ether, 2,4-dinitro - 5 - hydroxy - phenyl - (1) ether, 2,4 - dinitro - 5 - benzoxyphenyl - (1) ether and 2,4,21,41 - tetranitro - 51 - hydroxy - diphenyl (5) ether, and a process for the production of new derivatives of Vitamin B12 Factor III in which the phenolic hydroxyl group in the basic part of Factor III is etherified characterized in that an etherifying agent is allowed to react with the Factor III in a weakly alkaline medium, and the ether obtained thereby isolated. The etherification may be effected with an alkylating or arylating agent in the temperature range 20-60 DEG C. and subsequently traces of etherification agent removed by adding an aqueous phenol solution. As weakly alkaline medium there may be used an alkali carbonate or bicarbonate. Further purification may be effected by means of chromatography or electrophoresis.
