Abstract

A solution comprising cellulose triacetate, having an acetic acid yield of at least 59%, in a mixture of dioxolane-1,3 and from 1 to 40% by weight of an organic liquid non-solvent for the triacetate, the mixture being anhydrous or containing at most 4% by weight of water, is spun by a dry-spinning process at a temperature of from 80 DEG to 110 DEG C. at the moment of extrusion into the coagulating zone. The organic liquid non-solvent may be a ketone, e.g. acetone, or an aliphatic alcohol, e.g. ethanol, the mixture preferably containing 1 to 15% by weight of non-solvent when an aliphatic alcohol is used. The spinning solution may contain fillers, e.g. dyestuffs, pigments and/or plasticizers. Pure cellulose triacetate or cellulose triacetate admixed with secondary acetate, other ester or ethers of cellulose or synthetic polymers which are soluble in the solvent used, may be spun.
