Abstract

829,051. Reinforced concrete. INTERNATIONELLA SIPOREX A.B. Jan. 9, 1958, No. 842/58. Class 20(4) Reinforcement for steam-cured, lightweight concrete is coated with a slurry comprising a suspension of hydraulic cement such as Portland, alumina or slag, and rubber containing about 1-15% or rubber by weight, the coating being dried before the concrete is cast. The coating serves to increase bonding properties of and to rust-proof the reinforcements which may be used in slabs, blocks, beams &c. Examples are given of the coating composition using hydraulic cement, rubber latex, caustic ammonia, casein and water, the coating being steam-cured after application under a pressure of 4-12 kilograms per square centimetre. The cement may be suspended in a solution containing dissolved rubber, such solvents as chlorinated, cyclic and aliphatic hydrocarbons being used, or, alternatively, the suspending medium may be an alcohol, acetone or dioxan. If water is used as the suspending medium, natural or synthetic rubber latex should be employed or butyl, nitrile or neoprene rubbers, with stabilizers. The light-weight cement may be prepared from siliceous or lime-containing materials and may contain gas-developing or foam-producing substances and setting regulators.
