Abstract

827,991. Turntables. ENTWISTLE, J. Sept. 17, 1957 [Oct. 30, 1956], No. 33036/56. Class 104 (2). A turntable has a platform 15 rotating on a large ball-bearing concentric with a vertical output shaft 19 driven by an electric motor 17 through reduction gear 18 located within the bearing. Alternate large and small balls of the bearing are mounted in a groove on the upper edge of an annular ring 12 secured to the vertical flange of an angle race 11 secured to a stationary base 10 mounted on the floor. A rotatable inverted angle race 14 supported on the balls carries the turntable platform which is driven from the shaft 19 by two radial arms 20, the outer ends of which for smooth movement are resiliently mounted by engaging the centre of a bolt 21 against the pressure of springs 22 or rubber buffers, the ends of the bolt being mounted in brackets 23 secured to the platform or race 14. A vehicle is run on ramps 26 on to the platform, the wheels w engaging rectangular parts, the raised central part being mounted on side baulks 24 and having a removal cover 25. The driving mechanism may be housed in a pit in the floor and the platforms made circular and lying flush with the floor.
