Abstract
827,852. Gas turbine plant. FAIREY AVIATION CO. Ltd. Oct. 16, 1956 [Nov. 11, 1955], No. 32266/55. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIII] A gas turbine engine supplying driving gas to a helicopter rotor of the kind driven by ejection of the gas from nozzles carried on the rotor blades without further heating comprises a single compressor which supplies compressed air to a combustion chamber and also directly to a compressed gas duct communicating with the rotor, and means are provided for withdrawing hot air or combustion gases, or both, from the combustion chamber into the compressed gas duct to intermingle with the air already supplied thereto by the compressor. A compressor 5 driven by a two-stage turbine 4 supplies air through ducts 6 to a chamber 2a forming part of a compressed gas duct 2 surrounding a combustion chamber 3. Some of the air passes through an annular gap 2b between the duct 2 and the combustion chamber 3 and thence through holes 7 to a duct 1, the remainder being directed by baffles 12 to enter the combustion chamber 3 through holes 8. Further baffles 12 direct hot air or combustion products, or both, back into the duct 2 to mix with the unheated air. The duct 1 feeds the hot mixture to propulsion nozzles carried on the helicopter rotor blades.
