Abstract
826,462. Metal-working presses. HORDERN, MASON & EDWARDS Ltd. Feb. 21, 1956 [Feb. 21, 1955], No. 5057/55. Class 83 (4). In a forging press, power hammer, moulding- machine, shearing-machine, or rolling-mill having a frame 10, 11, 12 provided with hollow tierods 13 pre-stressed in tension to relieve parts of the frame of tensile stresses during operation, each tie-rod is provided with electric heating means 18 adapted to heat the tie-rod and cause it to expand, longitudinally relatively to the adjacent part of the press frame. This enables the securing nut or the like 15 of the tie-rod to be easily released when a jam occurs in the machine. The heating means comprises an electrical heating element contained in an outer sheath 18 disposed in an axial bore 17, Fig. 3, of the tie-rod.
