Abstract
826,438. Controlling steam temperature in boilers. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Feb. 6, 1958 [July 23, 1957], No. 3908/58. Class 123(3) [Also in Group XII] The superheat temperature of a boiler is kept constant over a wide range of loads by tilting the corner burners 12 to change the height of the combustion zone for the upper load range, and by supplying recirculated combustion gases to the bottom of the combustion chamber for the lower load range. To prevent damage to the tube walls of the combustion chamber, or to the walls of the recirculated gas duct 36 when the recirculation system is closed by dampers 40, 42 on either side of the recirculation fan 38, the furnace end of the duct 36 is double walled from upstream of dampers 42 to the furnace end of the duct. The double walls of the duct form passages 48 by-passing the dampers 42. as do the double walls of directing vanes 52 within the end of the duct. Hot air from the air heater 28 is fed into the duct 36 upstream of dampers 42 when the combustion gases are not recirculated, and passes through the passages 48 and hollow vanes 52 to prevent overheating of the duct 36.
