Abstract
In a process for purifying terephthalic acid which contains para-toluic acid the mixture is treated with acetonitrile to dissolve the paratoluic acid and the resulting solution is separated from the undissolved terephthalic acid. Elevated temperature and pressure may be employed and the para-toluic acid may be isolated from the acetonitrile solution. Examples are furnished. Specification 623,836 is referred to.
