Abstract
824,998. Control systems for high-voltage apparatus. MACHLETT LABORATORIES Inc. April 23, 1957 [May 2, 1956], No. 12933/57. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] An electronic control system for an X-ray tube or other high-voltage device 17 comprises a H.V. generator 15 supplying an energy storage device 16 feeding the device 17 through a switching tube 11 controlled from a square pulse forming circuit 10, 12 capable of producing pulses of 1-5 millisecs. duration. In the embodiment described, capacitors 16 charged from rectifier unit 15 are discharged into an X-ray tube 17 through tube 11, rendered conducting by a positive pulse from a monostable cathode coupled multivibrator 10, the pulse width being manually adjustable by means of a C.R. circuit. Arrangements to prevent loss of negative bias on the switching tube are incorporated in a transillumination device (not shown) comprising a signal lamp in the bias supply, a transparent rod and a photo-cell, a fault in which or lack of illumination from the signal lamp causes the H.V. transformer to be disconnected from the supply.
