The stump extracting apparatus described in the parent Specification is modified by making the jaws 7 open on the initial upward movement of the tractor draft links 14a. This is effected by either connecting the cable 14 directly to link 14d, or, according to a modification (not shown), by dispensing with cable 14 and connecting arm 14c directly to the lugs 13.
