Class 98(2) The method of the parent Specification, photographic reproduction in which a silver image in an emulsion layer is used to destroy imagewise a diazonium compound through the action of a bleaching agent of the type used in silver-dye-bleach processes, the diazonium compound either being incorporated in or then diffusing into a receiving absorbent support, whereafter the diazonium compound is caused to couple with an azo coupler to form an azo dye image, is modified by selection of the diazonium compound and coupler to form an azo dye which is waterrepellent and ink-accepting and the receiving support is a lithographic printing surface. Examples are directed to coupling under the acid conditions required for the silver-dye-bleach treatment, thus a line original may be reflex printed on to a high contrast silver chlorobromide paper and the latter developed, treated in acetic acid solution, swabbed with an aqueous solution containing 1-diazoanthraquinone, cupric chloride and hydrochloric acid, and then pressed on to a casein coated paper sheet which has previously been treated with an aqueous ethanolic solution of #- naphthol as by passage through a household wringer and the negative is stripped away revealing a positive red dye image on the coated paper sheet, which latter is placed on an offset machine, damped, and then used for printing in the ordinary way. The diazo bleach solution may be replaced by one containing 2(4<SP>1</SP> methyl-2'- nitro phenylazo)-4 : 6 dimethyl benzene-1- diazonium chloride instead of 1-diazoanthraquinone to give a similar but blue image. A solution containing 1-diazo-2- nitro-4-methyl benzene and hydrochloric acid which bleaches without inclusion of cupric chloride may be used. A manner of operating the invention following the "two component" diazotype procedure with alkaline development is indicated. Anodizedaluminium, surface oxidized zinc, and surface hydrolysed cellulose ester sheeting are referred to as further lithographic printing surfaces.
