Class 120(3) In a bulking or crimping process, yarn of organic acid ester of cellulose of a degree of substitution above 2.5 e.g. cellulose acetate of acetyl value at least 60% (reckoned as acetic acid) is pretreated to increase the crystallinity of the ester and is then subjected to a crimping operation during which it may be given a setting treatment to increase further (by a lesser, greater or equal extent compared with the pretreatment) the crystallinity of the cellulose ester in the yarn. The crimping operation may comprise a twisting, heatsetting and untwisting process effected with batches of wound yarn or continuously e.g. by false-twisting, as described in Specification 805,757 and/or using apparatus described in Specification 755,580. In the pretreatment, bobbins or cones of multifilament yarn may be heated with steam (wet and at superatmospheric pressure), water or hot air, or such heating may be applied continuously to a running yarn under minimum tension.
