Abstract

2 - Anilido - sulphonyl - diphenylamine - 4 - diazonium chloride is made by allowing 4-nitrodiphenylamine-2-sulphochloride in benzene and aniline solution to stand to form the sulphanilide, catalytically reducing this to the amino derivative in dioxane and diazotizing with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid in dimethyl formamide. The product is purified with ether. 2 - [p - Toluene - sulphonyl - amino] - diphenylamine - 4 - diazonium chloride is made by reacting 2-amino-4-nitrodiphenylamine in dioxane with p-toluene sulphochloride in the presence of pyridine, treating the reaction product with sodium hyposulphite to reduce the nitro group, precipitating the amino compound thereby formed with glacial acetic acid and diazotizing in alcoholic solution containing hydrochloric acid by isoamyl nitrite. The product is purified with ether. 41 - Bromo - diphenylamine - 4 - diazonium bromide is made by heating the corresponding diazonium chloride in glacial acetic acid saturated with gaseous hydrogen bromide, treating the solution with animal charcoal, filtering, precipitating the diazonium bromide with acetic ester, and recrystallizing from ethanol. 41 - Chloro - diphenylamine - 4 - diazonium bromide, 21 - methoxy - diphenylamine - 4 - diazonium bromide and 41-methoxy-diphenylamine-4-diazonium bromide are made by heating the corresponding diazonium chlorides in 48% aqueous hydrobromic acid, with analogous animal charcoal and purification treatments. 2 - Methoxy - carbazole - 3 - diazonium bromide is made by heating 2-methoxy-carbazole with acetic anhydride, nitrating the acetylation product, catalytically reducing the resulting nitro group to amino, heating with methanolic potassium hydroxide to split off the acetyl group and form 2-methoxy-3-amino-carbazole which is isolated as the hydrochloride, diazotizing this in hydrobromic acid solution, and finally salting out the product with saturated potassium bromide solution.
