823,959. Electrically-heated ovens. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. May 8, 1957 [May 11, 1956], No. 14728/56. Class 39(3) [Also in Groups VII and XXX] Apparatus for reactivating heat-softenable adhesive on individual components comprises a continuous conveyer 1 which receives components individually and conveys them through a heating region to a receiving compartment 20 which is heated so as to keep the adhesive reactivated until the component is required. As shown an infra-red heating unit 5, adjusted by regulator 8 and comprising one or more sheathed type elements 6 in a reflector 7, is arranged within the conveyer 1, and heat passing through the conveyer passes through louvres 10 in a baffle 9 to a rack (not shown) shaped to receive shoe uppers for heating. Shoe soles coated with set adhesive on their lower surfaces are fed one by one from a magazine 12 through an adjustable gate by a ram 15 on a pivoted arm 16 which is operated by solenoid 17 against spring 18. The soles are removed from the conveyer by a roller 23, driven at greater peripheral speed than the conveyer, down a shoot 19 to the compartment 20 heated by an infra-red unit 21 adjustable at 22. Compartment 20 is open at the front to permit access by the operator, and includes a palm-operated switch 24 controlling solenoid 17, so that, when removing one sole, the operator can actuate the feed mechanism to feed another sole.
