823,883. Ball and socket joints. LANGEN, V. May 10, 1957 [Feb. 15, 1957], No. 14953/57. Class 65(2) The ball 3 is seated on a hollow spherical surface at the side of the socket from which the pin 2 projects and bears at the opposite side on a disc 5 of elastic yieldable material which is curved to conform to the curvature of the ball and is covered by a rigid plate 6 of the same curvature having radially extending slots 11 which form resilient tongues. The plate may be made of metal, and the slots radiate from a central hole' 10. The disc 5 rests on a shoulder 8 in the socket and the plate 6 rests on a distance ring of the same thickness as the disc which surrounds the disc and may comprise a flange 7 on the plate. The hollow spherical surface may be formed directly in the socket, or may comprise a shell mounted in the socket or a cup 4 of steel or synthetic material. The shell or cup may have a cylindrical extension forming the shoulder 8.
