Abstract

823,880. Electric fail-safe systems. SCULLY SIGNAL CO. May 6, 1957 [May 8, 1956], No. 14381/57. Class 40 (1). The invention relates to detector means in an electrical fail-safe system as disclosed in Specification 793,511 in which a principal signal is modified by a periodic checking signal which is extracted and used to monitor the system. The detector comprises a switch which assumes one of two positions in response to the presence or absence of the checking signal, alternatively connecting a storage capacitor to A.C. through a rectifier or to the load relay, the relay being slow-to-open and thus being sustained by the periodic checking signal. The relay RY1 connects B to C and D to E on receipt of the checking signal, thus charging C1 through rectifier S. When the checking signal is interrupted contacts B, A are connected and C1 discharges through load relay RY2. Ganged switch 3 is used to provide the checking signal by breaking the principal signal.
