Abstract
823,881. Electric fail-safe systems. SCULLY SIGNAL CO. May 7, 1957 [May 8, 1956], No. 14505/57. Class 40 (1). An electrical fail-safe system as disclosed in Specification 793,511 in which a principal signal is modified by a periodic checking signal which is extracted and used to monitor the system is described and the monition relates to the detector means. This comprises a switch responsive to the periodic signal and making alternately to connect a capacitor to a D.C. supply or to a load relay in series with the supply, the relay being energized only by the higher voltage thus applied and being slow-torelease, thus holding as long as the repetitive checking signal continues. The D.C. may be obtained from a conventional single wave R.C. smoothed A.C. supply. The responsive switch RY1 connects storage capacitor C1 to the D.C. supply in the position shown, and thus B, C, D, F are made to series the supply, the capacitor and the load relay RY2. The checking signal can be obtained by switch 3, ganged to RY1, interrupting the principal signal.
