Abstract

823,788. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 1, 1957 [July 2, 1956], No. 20423/56. Class 35. In a machine wherein the stator conductors include or are associated with longitudinal ducts for liquid, the liquid paths between inlet and outlet include at least one complete coil. As shown, each phase consists of two sets of conductors in parallel and water or oil from the heat-exchanger 24 enters these by inlets 22 near the line terminal of each phase and near the neutral terminal, the liquid outlets 12 being at the mid-point of each phase winding. The liquid is conveyed in insulated pipes passing through bushings 13 in the casing 14 of the machine and through resistances 15-20. In a modification, inlets are at each mid-phase point as well as at each end, and the outlets are midway between the inlets. The conductors may consist of hollow rectangular members to convey the water, each disposed between a pair of lightly insulated strips. The main terminal bushings are included in the water circuit and the remainder of the machine may be cooled by hydrogen under pressure.
