Tubular cartons are formed from blanks of cardboard having a continuous coating of polythene the blanks being joined to form tubes by passing the blanks through a heating station where one or more flames are caused to sweep a narrow marginal zone of the polythene coating to melt the surface of the polythene in that zone. The blank is then folded over so that the cardboard layer will overlap and engage the melted zone of the polythene coating. The two marginal zones are then pressed together by pressure rollers until the heated polythene surface has solidified. Specification 789,981 is referred to.
