Abstract
823,592. Jet propulsion plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Sept. 14, 1956 [Sept. 28, 1955], No. 27599/55. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIII] The nozzle 17a of a turbo-prop engine is shown in vertical section, and is of fish-tail shape in plan. An adjustable flap 7 is disposed so that the exhaust gas stream always follows the upper surface of the flap. A part 20 of the nozzle is pivoted at 21 and is operable by an hydraulic jack 22, so that the area of the nozzle may be varied. The propeller may be of variable pitch, and the flaps 7 and 20 may be deflected downwardly while the pitch of the propeller is reversed to obtain a high lift and a braking effect. This may be done automatically by a device responsive to drop in airspeed.
