823,523. Beet-harvesters. G. B. W. FARM MACHINERY Ltd. Nov. 12, 1957 [Nov. 12, 1956], No. 34521/56. Class 6(3). A root-crop harvester comprises a digging member 10 feeding the crop to an upwardly and rearwardly inclined conveyer 15 which transfers it to a cleaning enclosure 21 of which the conveyer forms the moving bottom, the crop being tumbled by rotary beaters 28 within the enclosure and ejected through a lateral opening. The conveyer 15 is bounded by side-walls 17 and is surmounted by a second conveyer 14 floatingly mounted on pivoted arms 11 and driven oppositely to the conveyer 15 so that the adjacent runs of both conveyers travel upwardly. The enclosure 21 consists of a cage having a solid front wall 25 terminating short of the floor to permit the entry of the crop and having a transverse shaft 27, mounted adjacent to its rear wall, carrying rubber beater-fingers 28. The crop, after tumbling, leaves the enclosure over an adjustable gate 30 partly closing a gap in one side-wall of the enclosure, and falls on to an elevator 33. The various moving parts are driven from the towing tractor through a jointed shaft 36. The machine may carry the topping device 48 and top-clearing flails desscribed in Specification 823,524, these devices being arranged to operate upon the adjacent crop-row.
