Abstract
<PICT:0823022/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0823022/IV(c)/2> A vessel, e.g. a dyeing vessel, has a pressure-sealing device including two rollers 3, 4 mounted in an opening 1 such that their axes are substantially parallel, the rollers being arranged to contact any length of material passing therebetween, there being a means, e.g. compression springs 11 which urges one roller towards the other in order to prevent substantial leakage, between the rollers of pressure medium within the vessel, there being plates 13 disposed between the end-faces of the rollers and the adjacent sides of said opening, said plates serving to prevent substantial leakage of pressure medium, there also being two other plates 14 serving to prevent leakage of pressure medium between the rollers and the remaining sides of said opening, each plate being attached to a respective one of said remaining sides and one of its faces bearing upon the curved surface of the adjacent roller along its entire length. Roller 4 can be moved up to and away from roller 3 by rotation of hand wheel 8 acting on block 5 by way of spindle 9, plate 10 and springs 11. Referring to Fig. 2, the rollers may comprise a steel jacket 3b surrounded by rubber coating 3c. Edges 3d of coating 3c preferably project beyond the end faces of the roller so as to co-operate with annular plates 13. There is preferably provided in the external gusset defined by the rollers a liquid bath 16 (Fig. 1), for the continuous chemical pre-treatment of material entering the vessel. Rollers 3 and 4 may be caused to move towards each other. The vessel may have in addition a pressure sealing exit device. Plates 14 may be of resilient steel or rubber and may be pivotably attached to the vessel and urged by springs against the rollers.
